Our Campaign Video:
The concept of our campaign video was to capture what life would be like with Liana Martin as President. In this short video, we will discuss the following topics: COVID-19 response, raising minimum wage, our plan for the environment, equality, and access to healthcare.
COVID-19 Response |
Standardized Testing |
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will work keep the economy open as much as possible, locally increase restrictions when necessary, work on more efficient testing, and focus on creating a vaccine and finding other drugs that help with COVID. We will avoid facing the many consequences of a nation-wide lock-down again by creating restrictions and regulations at state or local levels. Increasing restrictions locally will enable each state or region to take the precautions that fit them best. When local areas needed to be in lock-down, we will work to better monitor and keep track of people in public locations in order to help reduce the spread of COVID. In addition to this, we will be funding COVID testing, as well as the testing, production, and administration of vaccines and drugs. Our team is fully prepared to take this pandemic seriously and make the steps necessary to help reduce the impact of COVID.

We believe that the United States education system can be greatly improved. Our beliefs are that standardized testing should not be required for students to take. Standardized tests are inaccurate, and only benefit students who are good test-takers and give other students better advantages, ultimately not accurately determining a student’s academic knowledge. Many studies have also shown that standardized tests are racist, sexist, and classist, which all go against the Meta Party’s beliefs. A single bad test score should not determine a student’s life, nor ability to get into college. Also, with COVID-19 still around, it is not safe for students and teachers to meet and take standardized tests. Taking a test is not worth the risk of spreading COVID-19 and risking the lives of teachers and students alike. By doing this, we will be able to improve the education system of the United States.

EqualityWe believe that no American citizen should receive less opportunity for success based on religion, economic income, race, sexual orientation, or gender. To show this, our campaign is in full support of the Equality Act of 2020. This act states that is illegal to discriminate based off gender identity and sexual orientation in a variety of settings, some of which include public accommodations and facilities, education, employment, housing, and the jury system. We believe that every American citizen should have equal rights and opportunities and our team is prepared to take action against racism, sexism, and discrimination of any sort.
Healthcare The Meta Party believes that every American Citizen, regardless or financial status, race, or age, should be able to receive free and universal healthcare. With over 45,000 Americans dying annually from lack of healthcare, we thought it was only best to get rid of this death toll by giving everyone healthcare access. By doing this, the public health will be improved overall and no American citizen will be neglected of the healthcare they may need.

EnvironmentWe care for the environment and want to help protect it by decreasing the negative environmental impacts made by major companies. We will do this by creating a law to regulate how much pollution, in the form of fossil fuels and toxic chemicals, can be released into the atmosphere by these companies. In addition, our campaign will be rewarding tax write offs to major companies that switch to using recycled products. Unfortunately, it is unrealistic to set the goal of completely eliminating pollution from major companies, but this is a step in the right direction.
AbortionThe Meta party believes that abortion is a fundamental human right, and it is important to us that we protect it as such. Under Liana Martin's presidency, abortion will be legal for any reason until 23 weeks, and available in cases of medical emergencies after this time. We will also fund more comprehensive reproductive education programs so that individuals are more aware of both how to prevent unwanted pregnancies and of their options when faced with a pregnancy that they want to terminate.

HomelessnessHomelessness is an issue that unfortunately impacts many U.S. citizens. Our team will be showing support to those in need by endorsing current organizations that have the goal of supporting and giving aid to homeless people. Such organizations include: Continuum of Care Program, Emergency Solutions Grant Program, and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program. In addition to this, we will be creating a law that discontinues the use of the “defensive architecture” known as anti-homeless spikes. In addition to no longer allowing these spikes to be put in place, this law will require that all current spikes be removed. These spikes are strategically placed in order to prevent the homeless from seeking shelter and resting in more safe and comfortable public locations. Our campaign is in full support of the homeless and we are prepared to take action to support those in need.
|
Gun ControlOur team supports gun control in the United States. We believe that countless lives will be saved through the implementation of more strict screenings and background checks on those looking to purchase a firearm. These strict regulations will help ensure that potential buyers qualify to own a gun, which should reduce the number of tragedies involving shootouts. The restrictions will increase based on the type of gun, and some firearms, such as automatic weapons, will not be available for purchase. On top of this, we will be requiring that gun owners take a mandatory training and safety course before they receive their firearm. This will help ensure they know how to safely and responsibly operate their weapon and understand the potential risks that come with owning one.
|
Minimum WageWe have seen that minimum wage is too low to live off of, so we have decided to raise minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $15.00 per hour, more than doubling the minimum amount of income a family receives. With a higher minimum wage, individuals will be paid closer to the worth of their work, and poverty will decrease as people who keep their jobs earn more money and people who lose their jobs in order to fund higher minimum wage are caught in socio-economic safety nets.
|
Border ControlOur team endorses building an electric fence along the U.S. Mexico border. Those working in border patrol will be payed minimum wage, which we will be raising to $15 an hour. In building this fence, our goal is to protect American citizens and prevent illegal immigrants from sneaking across the border. We support legal immigration, and want to encourage people to legally apply to become U.S. citizens. Our team will be working to speed up the process to become a citizen in order to support those who would like to legally reside here in the U.S.
